a lone chickadee
flits by
a tiny shadow dancing across snowy waves
gasping
the man pauses
listens
as feathered music
echos
through bare limbed aspens
sunburned
sweat dripping down his face
he stares back
ponders the trail of tracks
a frozen testament to persistence
to carrying on
to believing
he sighs
smiles
inhales the icy air
and chooses life
again
